Hi everyone
I'm a 19 year old guy.
Going to college in the fall.
I have no experience with acting which is why I look forward to college.

So I was wondering what does it really take to be an actor in terms of interests, skills, abilities and personality?

Will it matter that I started in college with acting in the grand scheme of things?

Any other advice to a future actor?

Hey ya'lls. I was just wondering if you could help me in a little search. I am looking for a male/female duet for tenor/alto. It would be nice if it pertained somehow to life and the good things in life. See, the duet is for this benefit concert I'm doing to help support Relay For Life which, incase you don't already know, is an organization that raises money to help support cancer research and help people fight cancer. I told my friend I would find something and I haven't yet. I need to have it ready to perform by April 30th so that she can see it and what not. So if anybody has any brilliant ideas it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

-Moi :)

hey all

what should I do?

I hate my acting 3 class.
I took it originally because I wanted to get to know the people in the dept and the fact that I couldn't take the mon-wed-fri acting 1 class , but now I realize that I needed acting 1 to help me become a good actor again since I haven't really acted in a year and a half.

I was thinking of dropping my acting 3 class because I hate just studying scenes, but I do learn some stuff.. sometimes...
but mostly it's just scene study which it clearly states in the description..
I am so fucked...

I think it's best not to considering the fact that my teacher is a bull dog-personality wise and acting wise-but let's hear it from you guys.

thanks.

Yes, a soppy livejournal beg. I have callbacks for Houston Shakespeare Festival on Monday. The Lavinia pre-rape scene in Titus is crazy. Her betrothed is murdered before her, she is being dragged off to a rape and dismemberment, and she is begging/ pleading for her chastity or to just be killed.

TACTICS. See Lavinia does plead, gets angry, begs but I keep coming out with this whole "wah wah wah please no please no" crap that becomes boring and superficial. I need some beat and character analysis from others - I may just not be getting something (no matter how much I work and dig my brain).

So - thoughts people. Your chance to be all hoity-toity. Your lover is murdered. You are a virgin and you were saving yourself for that now dead lover/soon-to-be husband. You are being dragged away from his body by two horrible and vile Goth princes to be raped. Your tongue will be cut out and your hands cut off to never tell that you were raped. You will be a horrific sight for the rest of your long life. And right in front of you stands A WOMAN demanding that it take place. You first talk to her then to her sons to show mercy and save her chastity. Then you asked to just be killed. Then you scorn her and are silenced. She laughs and they do to - and no one gives a damn.

What do you do? What do you say? What are the TACTICS you employ before everything you once had is demolished? She has a chance to save herself...but how will she do it?

I am freaking out.

Hi, Im really new to acting. Sorry to waste your time, but how can you make yourself cry on cue? How do you do it? Because I cry very easily when watching or reading something sad, but I can't seem to do it on cue.

Any tips?

am I wrong in this assumption?

we were supposed to come to class as as character and interact.
then after the teacher 'interviewed' us, he wanted people who had been working on regular acting scenes, to get up in front of the group and perform your scene as your character.

now, I didn't know my lines instantly and my scene partner were very upset with this as well I was.
I sat down and she did the scene with someone else she had worked on the same scene with for competiton.
when I sat down, I let the character go and became myself and my lines started to instantly come back.
I talked to my teacher afterwards and he said I was just giving excuses and didn't know my lines.
Now, I haven't looked at my lines in a few weeks, and after going over them afterwards, I did miss a few cue lines, but I essentially put them away since I didn't know when I would do them again.
I figured since my character couldn't act and didn't know my lines, that he wouldn't be able to do it.
also, since the basis of the scene is my partner chasing me all over the room in lust, wouldn't I be making fun of my character (who hated the character she was playing for the class exercise) and isn't that something you aren't supposed to do anyways?

opinions?

I have to go into class as a character we were supposed to have watched and studied.
the guy i chose is shorter, balding, and stocky as I am tall, thin, and have a full head of thick curly hair.

I bought a baldcap and latex to help smooth it out.
however, after trying it on I realized that the cap is too big and does not fit snug.
it also does not cover the back of my neck where my hair sticks out. I guess I should get that part chopped off?
I was thinking of getting some pantyhose or anklets and putting that on my head and then the cap-however, that might be too hot.

any ideas how to fix this situation?

thanks.

any of you guys ever felt like there was a difference between your theater self and your regular self?

if so, did you ever merge the two in order to have more fun?

I've recently come across some theatre people who have qualities and interests that resemble what I usually look for in my outside friends.

thanks.

I am thinking of possibly auditioning for our school production of 'Bus Stop.' I am wondering if I really have a chance since I am tall and slightly skinny and have tanned skin and wear glasses.

let me know what you guys think.

have you guys ever said something really out of place during meisner exercises that everyone was incredibly shocked after you said it?

if so-how did you get everyone's respect back?

It was the second day of acting class and me and this chick were paired together for a scene where we played lovers so the teacher made us say things like "I want you" "I love you" then someone mentioned the time and It got me jumpy and the whole vibe of the room felt very closed so the combo of both of these things made me want to break out of the closed vibe and want to hurry things up, so i said "I want to fuck you" which erupted the whole group and everyone was nice about it, but yea.
I now know there are vibes that you sometimes use to guide you into what is acceptable than to close you in.

thanks.

Okay, I need help. I have 2 REALLY important auditions at the end of March, and I don't know what to do for them. I need a 1-minute and 2-minute monologue. Here's the requirements, though:
-Must be from a published play.
-Must be female.
-Must be under 30.
-Must not require a dialect.
-Must not require props.
-Must not have special circumstances (being pregnant, being a horse, etc.)
-Must not be from a musical.
-Must not require a skinny actress.
It's not easy to find! So, if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to give me the monologue, a name of a play or playwirte, anything. 'Cause I need to start working on it soon, and the ones I have aren't the quality I'm lookng for. They're both dramatic ones about a boy, which is cliche and doesn't stand out much. So, thanks in advance for any help or advice you have to offer! (This will be my first MAJOR audition.)

In 'A midsummer night's dream,' is the character of Helena a slut?
my partner seems to think so and has the whole demetrius/helena scene blocked out with her shoving my face in her boobs and grabbing my crotch.

thanks.

ok

so,I haven't acted in about a year and five months and I am now in a acting 3 class. The teacher, who is really great and nice-keeps giving out homework masked as exercises, so I always can't figure out these disguises and get screwed over and end up giving a bad performance.

example-
on tuesday he wanted us to do character bios.
so,I thought he just wanted a history of our characters.
I then come home and try to get into character to write it, but can't b/c I want to use shakespeare's words and (I usted to watch alot of medieval info-tainment stuff and be exposed to a lot of shakespeare so I could easily create the lingo, etc)end up just writing the basics (full name etc)and bring that today.
so we're in class and all of sudden we are doing a interrogation type thing with our characters and everyone is amazing-like they knew it was coming or had better grip than i did-then i go up and it's bad. I am forced to think on my feet in character-something I haven't done in more than a year or a half-and i fail b/c I thought we couldn't improvise-apparently you can.
so i end up sucking bad and barely getting a performance out.

my question is-do I have a shot of improving or am i gonna have to just wait the semester out(and barely doing a good job and have everyone hate me) and do better in the long run?

thanks.

hello all-

where would i find a biography of Demetrius from A Midsummer Night's Dream?
He doesn't have much of a back ground listed in the play.
Isn't he more or less a duke in the court?

any help would be great.
thanks.

hello im new.

I usted to like to perform Shakespeare, now, I am begining to be fustrated.

the same scene I cannot seem to be mean to her. (demetrius-helena-midsummer nights' dream)
I think it's due to the fact that I am attracted to sweet pixie chicks.
and the character is a type of one.
The actress seems to have this white like vibe about her, I can't figure out what it is. that's what it seems like. like a block of some kind.
if I ignore that feeling, I get attracted to her sexuality and I am supposed to be annoyed with her to the point of threatening death. (think of isla fisher from wedding crashers and I'm -I think- Vince Vaughan)

any ideas on how to overcome this?

thanks.

Hi to y'all. I just joined so I thought I'd say a little about me and what not. I'm a part time highschool student, I love to act and read and write and take pictures. I'm currently in the school musical and am going to the state wide acting competition this weekend in Eugene (oregon). Ummmmmmmmm........ I don't know what else to say. I've been in a couple productions in my town and hope to continue doing so. The next play my highschool is doing is A Midsummer Night's Dream and I reeeeeeaaaaallllyyyyy want to get into that. Also a program called OCPA (Oregon Conservatory of Preforming Arts) is doing a production of Romeo and Juliet and I'd really like to get into that to. If I could be anybody, no matter gender, in Romeo and Juliet it would be Mercutio, I just love his character. Well I'm going to go eat something. Ciao!
Me.

That word on the street is we are starting to see actors entries into Dead Girls Club competition. Folks are already starting to talk about the promise of the opportunity here.

And the other good news can be found here. No fee to enter if you JOIN THE CLUB. And there is no fee to join the club. . .

If you were on the fence about taking part there isn't anything to slow you down. It's free to enter, and don't worry about submitting some sort of super-professional, expensively-produced reel. Your raw talent and personality, and a world-class scream are what will get you through this door. No time spent on a casting couch is necessary either. America will be seeing your talent and deciding.

Use your webcam, mini-dv, whatever. All anybody cares about is that they can see you and hear you. The rest is up to America!

Don't forget to do your campaigning at the deadgirlsclub community!
